With the advent of genomics and proteomics, there is an increasing need for rapid detection and measurement of biomolecules, such as proteins, bacteria, viruses, pathogens, DNA, etc. Because beads exist at the same size level as proteins and other biomolecules, magnetic beads are suitable for tagging or labeling purposes.

Meanwhile, there has been increasing number of explorations to quantitatively detect the target biomolecules via probing the magnetic properties of labeled bio-targets through usage of magnetic beads.
